Taipei, Taiwan and Blomberg, Germany

Etherwan Systems is being acquired by Phoenix Contact Group. This move offers Etherwan the opportunity to expand competence as an Ethernet connectivity manufacturer for the industrial IoT. With the acquisition, Phoenix Contact is able to accelerate its growth in industrial Ethernet related products and to expand the solutions for Industry 4.0.

Headquartered in Taiwan, Etherwan is a leading designer and manufacturer of hardened Ethernet switches, media converters, Ethernet extenders and power over Ethernet products for applications where connectivity is crucial. With more than two decades of success, Etherwan has become a leader in Ethernet connectivity solutions for transportation, IP security, and renewable energy.

Phoenix Contact is a globally present, Germany-based market leader offering components, systems, and solutions in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, and automation. Phoenix Contact has built up a global network across more than 100 countries and has 15,000 employees.

“Given Etherwan’s mission of innovation to industrial connectivity solutions, we are thrilled by the opportunity of teaming up with Phoenix Contact to supercharge our growth and to enhance our product offerings for customers on a larger, global scale,” said Mitch Yang, CEO of Etherwan.

Martin Müller, Vice President of I/O and Network of Phoenix Contact, said, “As more and more industries are facing the challenge of digitisation, Ethernet has become an essential technology for the next-step growth of Phoenix Contact. The complementary product lines from both Phoenix Contact and Etherwan means that the two companies often work together. It makes sense that this business combination is a natural move.”

Etherwan Systems will continue its business operations under its own name. The transaction is subject to approval by the local Investment Commission Taiwan.
