Panoramic surveillance system for stadiums

Diepenbeek, Belgium

Camargus officially launched its revolutionary panoramic camera and video operator system for general availability at the IBC show this year.
The system has been produced as a scalable and highly modular platform spanning the panoramic view HD quality and live buffers up to 90 minutes.

“What started as an advanced research project is now a fully commercialised product that has the potential to dramatically increase production value, content availability and unlock new revenue streams for sports broadcasting,” explains Tom Mertens, CEO for Camargus, “It is hard to put into words just how stunning the system is so IBC was a great opportunity to showcase the footage we have gathered from NHL and European football matches and officially launch the commercial product.”

The building block system is configured as a complete end solution for stadiums and sport arenas. It includes all cameras, server hardware, storage and proprietary software to capture, stitch and process high definition video in real-time. The Camargus Premier Stadium Video System is highly cost effective compared to the traditional expense of a multi-camera outside broadcast unit.

The fixed “in stadia” system captures the entire field using continuous recording from an array of cameras. All camera feeds are stitched together seamlessly without any distortions allowing either real-time operators or post production editors a virtual ‘pan-tilt-zoom’ across the entire stadium. The system is fully autonomous and can be used for both real-time and post-game analysis.

“We have had great interest from clubs that wish to use the system for training grounds and analysis of athletes within sports science environments,” comments Sacha Vekeman, VP Business Development, “A typical high definition football match requires 2Tb of data per hour of play but the raw data can be re-versioned into a vast array of both linear and interactive formats through compatibility with the leading video editing, content management and playout systems.”

Camargus also exposes its technology for use by third party system developers and integrators of visualisation and analytics tools using the open API. Applications such as player and ball tracking, automated highlight, broadcast graphics and big data analytics can be hosted on the system.

“We are now at the stage where we are talking to key regional partners within professional sports broadcasting and rights holders about how they can use Camargus to create new exciting content packages and revenue streams,” explains Vekeman, “The technology is now proven and productised so the next step is getting our system into leading stadiums around the world to show what true permanent video infrastructure can bring to sporting events and other stadia events.”
