New CNL partnership focuses on rail security

Knaphill, Surrey (UK)

CNL Software has entered into a technology partnership with R2P Rail and Road Protec GmbH, a leading developer of intelligent technology systems, including CCTV, passenger counting, infotainment and fleet management. The partnership brings together R2P’s mobile CCTV technology with CNL Software’s Ipsecuritycenter PSIM solution: offering greater efficiency for rail operators through video intelligence led incident management.

This partnership was cemented on a significant UK rail project, where the two companies have integrated their technologies; enabling video intelligence to improve rail uptime, and allowing trains to travel at optimal speeds. Live in-vehicle forward facing video from R2P is helping to quickly identify risks, issues and events such as trespassing and unauthorised track side presence, crossing over tracks, train surfers, graffiti sprayers and obstructions. These often negatively impact train operators; disrupting scheduling and impacting passengers and the smooth operation of the rail network.

This video, which can be captured along thousands of miles of track, can be instantly distributed via Ipsecuritycenter PSIM to operations teams and external first responders including the police. Ipsecuritycenter also enables this valuable footage to be easily exported with other video sources for forensic analysis, saving valuable time and the huge costs previously incurred to travel to each video source for retrieval.

The solution can help to identify and reduce the impact of incidents, by aggregating multiple sources of video intelligence, such as in-vehicle video from trains and multiple and disparate station CCTV systems, to provide advanced situational awareness and post incident intelligence gathering.

“Trespass, vandalism and other crimes are costing rail industries across the globe millions in operational losses each year. Service operators must stop trains if there is a perceived safety risk for passengers and staff; not only does this mean halting the trains in the immediate area but it can cause delays to other trains in the vicinity, in turn triggering a ripple effect of other interruptions across the network.”, explains Adlan Hussain, VP Marketing at CNL Software. “Our technology partnership with R2P provides the control room with greater video intelligence to assess and deal with situations promptly and efficiently, while also assisting law enforcement to bring perpetrators to justice after the event.”

“Today rail operators regardless of their location, understand the significant financial and reputational impact of interruptions to regular services. Our technology is helping to reduce the impact of these disruptions” comments Ulrik Ortiz Rasmussen, Founder and Managing Director at R2P Rail & Road Protec “We continue to work with companies such as CNL Software to provide our customers with the best technical solutions to their challenges, be they security or operational issues.”
