During his visit to Algiers, Mr Meng also held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdelkader Messahel and the Minister of the Interior Noureddine Bedoui.

To see first-hand Algeria’s daily law enforcement activities, President Meng toured the National Police’s Command and Control Centre which is responsible for monitoring the deployment and organisation of operational staff, oversight of road traffic management and public emergencies.

The President also toured the Afripol headquarters accompanied by Director General of the Algerian National Police (DGSN) and President of Afripol, Major General Abdelghani Hamel.

“The world is changing, creating new challenges in combating transnational crime and terrorism with every country needing to play its part,” said President Meng.

“Algeria continues to make a significant contribution at the regional and international levels and Interpol remains committed to supporting these efforts through its strong global network,” added the President who also recognized Algeria’s ongoing efforts in combating terrorism, particularly through its contribution of Foreign Terrorist Fighter profiles to Interpol.

Mr Meng said the election of Algeria’s Benyamina Abbad, Commissaire Divisionnaire de Police as Vice President for Africa on Interpol’s Executive Committee demonstrated member countries’ confidence in the experience both of Algeria and its representative in continuing these efforts.

During his mission, President Meng also visited the Algerian memorial for police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty, where he placed a wreath on behalf of Interpol.
