H.264 four channel video encoder

Lund, Sweden

Axis Communications introduces a high-performance, four-channel standalone video encoder with H.264 video compression. The full-featured AXIS Q7404 Video Encoder integrates four analog CCTV cameras at a time into an IP-based video surveillance system.

"AXIS Q7404 provides outstanding performance with multiple, full frame rate video streams in all resolutions from all four video channels," says Erik Frännlid, Axis' director of product management. "AXIS Q7404 further delivers superb video quality and significant savings in bandwidth and storage with H.264. The video encoder provides a cost-effective way for analog CCTV systems to get the benefits of network video without having to replace analog surveillance cameras. Users gain remote monitoring capabilities, powerful event management and improved scalability."

The highly efficient H.264 video compression format drastically reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without compromising image quality. The video encoder also supports Motion JPEG for increased flexibility.

AXIS Q7404 can deliver multiple digital video streams simultaneously from each analog video channel at full frame rate in all resolutions up to D1 (720x480 in NTSC, 720x576 in PAL). The video streams can be individually configured with different compression formats, resolutions and frame rates for different uses.

The video encoder offers intelligent video capabilities such as enhanced video motion detection, active tampering alarm and audio detection. Each video channel has two configurable inputs/outputs for connections to external devices such as sensors and relays, which enable the system to receive and respond to alarms. High-quality, two-way audio is provided on one video channel.

All four video channels support pan/tilt/zoom control for PTZ and PTZ dome cameras. It is also possible to control daisy-chained cameras from one RS-422/485 port as long as they operate on the same protocol.

The video encoder includes advanced network capabilities that optimize the network video solution for security, efficiency and manageability. The product is supported by the AXIS Camera Station video management software, as well as the industry's largest base of application software through Axis' Application Development Partner program. AXIS Q7404 will be available through Axis' distribution channels in Q2 2009.
