Genetec releases new unified web client

Montreal, Canada

Genetec has launched its new unified web client for Security Center. The unified web client is part of the Security Center Mobile 3.0 feature and allows customers to connect back to their platform to view video, control PTZ cameras, configure aspects of their access control and license plate recognition (LPR) systems, and run reports from most web browsers.
Several key characteristics differentiate Genetec’s unified web client. First, it is truly a thin client so customers have nothing to download before they connect to the Genetec unified security platform, Security Center. Instead, users simply require a link to the Security Center mobile server hosting the web pages. This allows the new web client to be a one-of-a-kind platform-independent interface; users can access the web client from browsers running within Microsoft Windows, Apple IOS, Linux, RIM Blackberry, and Android operating environments. Some of the more popular browsers that support the web client include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari, and Opera. The end result is a universal web-based client.

The unified web client in Security Center Mobile represents another major innovation for Genetec. Genetec was one of the first to offer centralised monitoring and reporting of hundreds of remote access control and video systems with their revolutionary Federation feature; the first to take a task-based approach to security system monitoring and configuration in their interface design; and now, Genetec is again at the forefront in bringing a platform-independent and universal web client to the market for video, access control, and license plate recognition.

“Our customers want to connect to their security platform through a multitude of devices and operating environments,” says Jimmy Palatsoukas, Senior Product Manager at Genetec. “Whether they’re on an Android smartphone, a Windows-based laptop, a Linux workstation, or an Apple tablet, they can do that now through our new unified web client. In addition to unifying functionalities related to access control, video, LPR, intrusion and more, the new web client’s look-and-feel is very similar to our Security Center interface. This ensures operators are ready to use the web client in no time at all.”

The unified web client's advantages include a simplified deployment process as organisations install the mobile server and provide links to their users; easy accessibility via the most popular web browsers; and an overall reduction in deployment and maintenance costs as updates are made solely at the mobile server level. Furthermore, the web client is a natural fit in multi-tenant installations and centrally managed access control or video systems; users are given access to their portion of the security system via a web client that requires no installation.

Specific video functionalities available through the web client include having access to an unrestricted number of video cameras and triggering video recording. On the LRP front, users can create and manage LPR hotlists, run LPR hit and read reports, and track daily statistics. With regards to access control, users can configure and manage cardholders and cardholder groups, access rights, credentials, and more. Once again, Genetec delivers a truly universal security and safety application to its customers.
