European IoT project enables elderly to retain independence

Stockholm, Sweden

Skyresponse will add critical alarm services to an IoT home care monitoring solution developed by a number of companies within the Front-VL project. Front-VL is a European research project with is focused on smart and efficient IoT solutions to increase possibilities for independent living for elderly persons at home.

The Front-VL project is one of many within the Celtic Plus network and is supported by around 20 partners, including a majority of companies as well as some universities and research institutes from many European countries including Sweden, Finland, Spain, Austria and Hungary.

The vision is to give older people greater influence over their own situation and increase the opportunity to stay in their homes for as long as possible. This can include support by safety techniques as well as the ability to handle chronic diseases via distance care and self-care. The Internet of Things, where devices, appliances and everyday objects can be linked and exchanged data, play a big role.

The organisations who have joined the project are all contributing with resources and long experience in relevant competence areas to realise the vision.

“Having an increasingly aging population is a demographic transition viewed as one of the major challenges to European economies and welfare systems. We are very pleased to be able to contribute in this important project via our partnership with Yodiwo, says Martin Reidevall, CEO Skyresponse. We have a long experience in the care industry and we are today monitoring over half a million alarms monthly. It gives us a deep understanding of the types of incidents and events this target group may face”

“With the fast and easy integration to Skyresponse platform, we can show that the concept to add suppliers of different services to the Front-VL platform works. This gives opportunities for connected suppliers to collaborate in creating new services” says Patrik Jonsson from project partner Axians, who are coordinating the project.
