The city's existing traffic lights network was very old and, furthermore, Zaragoza is one of the cities with the highest ratio of traffic lights per person. A modernisation of the whole network of lighting system therefore became absolutely essential.
This new system has 3x RS422 outputs which are galvanically isolated and protected against overloads. They can be configured via a web server which is integrated within each card.
Equitel has supplied 270 units, which will enable the control of more than 800 traffic light controllers. Further versions of this module will follow in the coming months in order to complete the range.

Equitel selected for Spanish city lights network upgrade

Equitel is a Spanish designer and manufacturer of fibre optic and IP transmission systems, and specialising in custom-made systems for customers requiring special products. The company has recently designed a new converter for RS422 serial data to IP for transmission over Ethernet networks. This system has been recently selected for upgrading the traffic lights network of Zaragoza, the fifth largest city in Spain.
