Efficient and cost effective surveillance with HD video

Taipei, Taiwan

The advantages of connecting both analogue and IP security cameras have been demonstrated to their full potential in a recent convenience store case from Avermedia.
One convenience store from the largest francise chain in Taiwan had installed an analogue CCTV system a couple of years ago. Tired of having to deal with unreliable picture quality that had been unable to provide solid evidence when disputes between cashier and customer arose during transactions and without clear identification of a suspect’s facial features or license plate, the store owner began to search for an alternative.

The store owner replaced the existing traditional analogue DVR and two out of seven analogue security cameras with Avermedia Averdigi EH1008H-4 Nano embedded hybrid DVR and IP security cameras- the SF1311H-D and SF1311H-B. The IP security cameras provide megapixel images and a wider camera field of view that was unable to be delivered by the analogue cameras in critical areas. The hybrid DVR was also installed to receive mixed camera signals from the two Averdigi IP security cameras and the other five analogue cameras throughout the store without major cable remodeling.

The 8CH EH1008H-4 Nano hybrid DVR is about 1/3 of the size compared with the existing analogue DVR at the chains, and features an aerodynamic fan-less system that significantly reduces the mechanic noise in the office. The indoor 'Averdigi'-series, SF1311H-D, IP security camera was installed above the cashier counter to monitor transactions and prevent retail shrinkage. Meanwhile, the outdoor IP security camera, the SF1311H-B, was installed at the front gate to capture images of suspects and license plates. Predictably, the compatibility between the Avermedia hybrid DVR and IP security cameras has been able to deliver the best results with high quality images, the point of most concern to the customer.

"I am glad that the customer realised the advantages of the hybrid system. The successes of this project were dependent upon the satisfaction of the image quality from the Averdigi IP security cameras that also reduced the cabling costs on installation and maintenance costs in the near future. Aside from simply upgrading the security cameras and DVR, the customer also realised the advantages of a POS surveillance system; they decided to connect the cash register and EH Nano through an Averdigi Data Box." said Willson Wang, the Account Manager of Taiwan, Avermedia Information Inc.
