Bosch adds new features to the Plena Public Address and Voice Alarm family

Breda, Netherlands

Bosch Security Systems has extended its Plena Public Address and Voice Alarm family with a new professional weekly timer unit, a DC power supply & charger unit and an update to its range of power amplifiers.

Designed to meet the stringent IEC 60849 standard for sound systems for emergency purposes, Bosch's Plena family offers all essential EVAC functionality, including system supervision, spare amplifier switching, loudspeaker-line surveillance and digital message management. For applications such as hotels and shopping centers, Plena also offers full public address functionality like BGM (background music), paging and playing pre-recorded commercials. The new additions complete the Plena family, further strengthening Bosch's position as 'one-stop-shop' supplier for public address and voice alarm solutions.
The Plena weekly timer embodies a very high level of functionality and combines this with the ease-of-use that has become the hallmark of the Plena plug-and-play family. Configuration is easy, either via keys and an easy-to-read display on the front panel or via a PC with dedicated configuration software provided free of charge. Moreover, the unit offers a high level of programming flexibility with the possibility to include two separate weekly programs with an unlimited number of events per day and time resolution down to one minute.
It is also possible to set up to 6 programmable time-scheduled contacts (programmable for the actions open, close and pulse), to schedule BGM level changes over the day and to select any of 14 built-in chimes to signal specific events (with individual volume control per event). The unit also includes automatic adjustment for seasonal daylight-saving time and an RS232 output is provided for an optional external clock display.
The Plena DC power supply & charger is part of the Plena Voice Alarm System and compliant with IEC 60849 and EN54-4. It features a 24 V DC / 10 A battery-charger plus a separate 24 V DC stabilized power-supply with an output for powering the volume overrides and two outputs for powering the system Remote Control Panels. These additional outputs provide valuable assistance to installers who are therefore spared from having to add a separate patch panel to power these systems. The unit also features microprocessor-controlled charging to optimize battery life, automatic disconnection of the Plena Voice Alarm System to prevent deep discharge, a battery temperature sensor and battery-in-use indication to prevent unobserved discharge of the batteries.
The updated Plena 120 W, 240 W and 480 W power amplifiers are optimized for use in IEC 60849 compliant systems. The highly reliable units feature dual inputs with priority switching (between a local music source and priority announcements) and a loop-through facility. The power amplifiers are fully supervised and protected with pilot-tone detection after the power stage, mains and battery back-up supervision plus over-temperature, overload and short-circuit protection. The units run on both mains and 24 V DC battery back-up.
