Avigilon HD protects valuable museum assets

Sioux City, Ia (USA)

The Sioux City Public Museum in Sioux City, Iowa, has deployed the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system to ensure public safety, deter criminal behaviour, and safeguard assets valued at more than $2 million.
The Avigilon high-definition surveillance system was chosen for its advanced management features, reliability, ease-of-use, and exceptional image clarity. “The Avigilon high-definition surveillance system has delivered the quality, reliability, and manageability we need to deliver a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience to our patrons – it is a 1,000 percent improvement over our previous analogue-based system,” said Steve Hansen, museum director at the Sioux City Public Museum. “We are now in a much better position to ensure public safety, deter crime, and safeguard our assets.”

Administrators and exhibition staff at the Sioux City Museum manage the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system using the Avigilon Control Center network video management software (NVMS) monitoring the system live throughout the day from their desktop computers. An additional monitor has also been set up in the main reception area to observe visitors as they enter and exit the permanent exhibit space. The Museum installed 15 Avigilon 2 MP and 1 MP cameras in the main exhibit areas as well as in hallways, key entry points, and at the loading dock, and store 29 days of continuous surveillance footage on an Avigilon network video recorder (NVR.)

The Avigilon high-definition surveillance system has played a critical role in helping the Museum ensure public safety and protect its valuable artifacts from damage or theft. Museum management appreciates that the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system will deliver a lower total cost of ownership because it provides greater image quality and reliability, requires less maintenance, and will expedite investigations. The Sioux City Public Museum will also be able to reduce insurance premiums and can more effectively protect itself against the threat of false liability claims. Equally as important, the Museum can more easily meet the strict security requirements set by traveling exhibits, attracting new audiences with the latest collections. Being located in the downtown core in an area with a transient population, the Museum administration have noticed a marked reduction in trespassing activity in the area surrounding the Museum since deploying the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system.

“With more than 5,000 visitors each month, the Sioux City Public Museum’s public safety and asset protection are top priorities,” said Keith Marett, vice president of marketing and communications at Avigilon. “Chosen for its advanced management features, ease-of-use, and exceptional image clarity, the Avigilon high-definition surveillance system has helped the Museum meet their security needs and also provide a solid return on investment for their business.”
