Ashevillem shifts to IP surveillance

Taipei, Taiwan

The municipal government of Asheville, North Carolina, recently decided to implement a digital surveillance system due to its versatility and recognition of IP surveillance as the wave of the future.

After careful evaluation, the government chose VIVOTEK's IP7138 Megapixel Network Cameras and FD6111 Fixed Dome Cameras along with NUUO's DVR/NVR recording system to expand their personnel's manpower in investigating incidents. VIVOTEK cameras now protect Asheville's Fire & Rescue substations as well as Stephens Lee Recreational Center.

In building exteriors and surroundings, FD6111 network cameras were installed. Their removable IR-cut filters and IR LEDs enable day and night surveillance with clear-cut images. With vandal- and weather-proof housing, the FD6111s are firmly protected from dust and rain exposure to ensure stable operation in harsh environments. The 1.3-megapixel IP7138 network cameras were mainly deployed indoors to offer detailed coverage of the areas under surveillance. With their high resolution, the cameras now enable building managers to monitor the entire area of interest with a limited number of cameras.

To bring out the best in VIVOTEK's advanced network cameras, NUUO's H.264 hardware compression cards and hybrid DVR/NVR recording system were adopted. The high performance H.264 hardware compression cards allow for more efficient transmission of camera feeds, especially for high-quality megapixel images from the VIVOTEK IP7138s. The buildings' original blue-prints were integrated into NUUO's E-Map function to make camera selection intuitive, and with a digital I/O card integrated in, events recorded by both the system and the NUUO video recording device can be searched with ease.

The comprehensive IP surveillance system borne out of a joint effort between VIVOTEK and NUUO provides police officers with remote monitoring capabilities and improves their response time in emergency situations. "Limited police presence was one of the key factors that prevented us from stopping a crime in time, but thanks to this new IP surveillance system, we are able to detect criminal behavior in advance and carry out investigation more efficiently," noted one Asheville government official.
