Software House releases single reader controller

London, UK

Software House, part of the Security Products business unit of Tyco, is introducing the Istar Edge single-reader controller, a cost-effective one-reader version of its popular Istar Edge controller.
The Istar single-reader controller is a natural extension of the current portfolio of 2- and 4-reader Istar Edge models. Suitable for space-saving placement above or near the door, the Istar Edge single-reader controller can be clustered with other Istar models, including the Istar Ex and Istar Pro, to provide advanced peer-to-peer communication, intrusion zones, keypad commands, extended card formats, advanced door monitoring and anti-passback.

Like the other Istar Edge devices, the single-reader version utilises Power over Ethernet (PoE) to leverage existing network infrastructure, which dramatically reduces installation costs. Istar Edge increases overall system reliability by providing localised decision-making at each door with a robust local cardholder storage capability of more than 400,000 cardholders, along with local alarm and transaction buffering.

“As part of an end-to-end system, the Istar Edge single-reader controller provides a cost-effective and highly functional solution for customers looking to use their existing infrastructure to secure smaller offices or areas within a larger corporate setting,” said Rafael Schrijvers, Product Marketing Manager, Tyco Security Products EMEA.

Other key features of the Istar Edge single-reader controller include four supervised inputs onboard; two wet/dry relay outputs with selectable lock voltage; dedicated input for fire alarm interlock; and local display to assist in startup and diagnostics. It is also FIPS 201 compliant, making it an option for government smart card installations.
