Secure Computing receive FIPS certification for cryptographic engine

Secure Computing Corporation, experts in securing connections between people, applications, and networks, recently announced the Federal Information Processing Standards, FIPS, 140-2 validation of the Cryptographic Module for SecureOS, the cryptographic engine on the Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance and the Sidewinder G2 Enterprise Manage.

The FIPS 140-2 standard, applicable to all Federal Agencies, specifies the security requirements that must be satisfied by cryptographic modules deployed to protecting sensitive or valuable information. Secure Computing's Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance offers the highest levels of gateway security in its class and is widely deployed, protecting the most important networks in the world including many in the US Government. This certificate of validation was awarded by the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) - a program established and operated jointly by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Canadian Communications Security Establishment (CSE). The CMVP validates compliance of cryptographic modules to FIPS 140-2 and other cryptography-based standards.
"Secure Computing is committed to delivering products that meet the rigorous requirements of our government accounts worldwide and that provide the highest level of security to any Internet or network connected business," said Mike Gallagher, senior vice president of product development for Secure Computing. "Sidewinder G2 is one of the most trusted and secure offerings available today for governments, affiliated agencies and the commercial sector."
The Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance is a comprehensive unified threat management (UTM) gateway security appliance. It is comprised of a wide variety of Internet security functions, including an Application Defenses(tm) firewall with embedded anti-virus, anti-spam, traffic anomaly detection, IDS/IPS, and a host of other critical protective features. The Cryptographic Module for SecureOS provides cryptographic services for applications on various versions of Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance and Sidewinder G2 Enterprise Manager. Sidewinder G2 is certified at the highest level of EAL4+ Common Criteria certification possible as an application firewall and has never been compromised.
"With certification of this validation effort, we acknowledge the assistance, services and contributions of the Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) in Mississippi and Maryland, the OpenSSL.org Project and the DOMUS IT Security Lab in Ottawa, Canada," said Gallagher.
