“I think it is because Sicurezza, despite its international ambition, has cemented its position as the Italian security market's major security event,” says Lennart Alexandrie, publisher at AR Media International, who has visited the event since the early nineties.
With 347 companies from 31 countries, Sicurezza confirms its position as one of the leading security fairs in Europe. The Italian market for security and fire protection products is also in strong growth, up 11.4 percent last year, landing a turnover of 3.3 billion euros in 2022, according to data from Anie Sicurezza.
High growth for video surveillance
The trend is across all product sectors, with more sustained momentum for video surveillance which grew by 16.1 percent. The market for firefighting products grew by 10.4 percent.
Intrusion detection is also on the rise, although it has not yet reached pre-pandemic levels. Growth in the domestic market amounted to 10.6 percent and benefited above all from large investments in construction - both housing and public buildings.
AI and ACCaaS – focus areas
According to the organiser, Fiera Milan, this year's Sicurezza will shine the spotlight on digitisation, new intelligent, integrated and customised systems, smart buildings and smart cities, combined with the cross-sectoral theme of data security.
In terms of innovation, the organiser highlights the focus on ultra-high resolution cameras as well as advanced video analysis and AI. In addition, everything from integrated solutions for intrusion detection, access control as a service (ACCaaS) to IP-based fire extinguishing solutions that can be remotely controlled and maintained are emphasised.
Creative domestic product development
Much of what is shown comes from international players, but there is also much to be gained from the domestic product developers, according to AR media's publisher.
“What makes Sicurezza extra interesting to me is the competence of the Italian security industry to develop and design niche products, not least in intrusion detection. This includes everything from advanced perimeter monitoring systems to burglar alarm systems with home automation functions. Internationally known Italian examples of this are CIAS and Ksenia,” comments Lennart Alexandrie, who is making his tenth visit to the fair.
“The Italian characteristic is the very thing about Sicurezza. Compared with Ifsec and Security in Essen, they have been so busy being big international events that they forgot how important the British and German markets are for visitors and exhibitors. That neglect has allowed alternative events to take the position as the most interesting national fair. A good example being The Security Event in Birmingham, which stole a march on Ifsec.
Dedicated topic area for cyber security
The subject of cyber security, an urgent and complex challenge that involves all sectors, will be explored in a dedicated space, the Cyber Security Arena, an educational area created with the support of Business International, a division that works exclusively with educational event content at Fiera Milano.
"That part of the show will be exciting to visit and to gain inspiration from", says Lennart Alexandrie in conclusion.
