Fast growing airport improves automated secure parking facilities

Cheshire, Ct

TKH Security (formerly Park Assist) has been awarded an Automated Parking Guidance System (APGS) contract with the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) in Morrisville, NC.

Installation of the camera based APGS system will begin in January 2023, with an anticipated completion date in first quarter 2024. The system will monitor more than 8,000 parking spaces across two parking garages. The airport’s facilities, and the three runways, served more than 14 million passengers in 2019. The numbers outpaced expectations and were a clear indication RDU is growing faster than the Airport Authority’s Vision 2040 foreshadowed.

“RDU is proud to be a leader in providing travelers with world-class service through new and innovative offerings. Our goal is to make their travel more convenient and enjoyable. Extending our customer service philosophy to the parking facilities was a natural decision,” said Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) Kenny Perry. “This technology will prevent travelers from taking too much time looking for parking and being late for their flight. Additionally, the surveillance component will improve the overall security and safety for all visitors and ownership.”

TKH Security’s new smart-sensor M5 camera-based APGS provides travellers with an effective method to successfully find an available parking space. Each smart-sensor can monitor up to six parking spaces simultaneously. The bright, red and green colour-coded LED lights on the smart-sensors instantly visually direct motorists to available spaces. Reducing time to park by up to 63%, the APGS assists travelers with arriving to their gate on time.

“Raleigh-Durham International Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the US and our team is honoured to be selected by the RDU Airport Authority for this incredible opportunity. We look forward to providing our innovative camera-based parking guidance system and bringing a first-class customer experience to all visitors,” said Regional Account Manager Thomas Alexander. “RDU is our 25th major international airport project in the US and third APGS project in the State of North Carolina.”
