Nexcom NVR empowers seaport operation & management

Taipei, Taiwan

Kaohsiung port is among the top 15 seaports in the world and the busiest seaport in Taiwan. With a handling capacity by 117 million TEU annually, the seaport is in full 24/7 operation and is constantly in demand for new operations.

As a consequence, it is really necessary for the seaport to have an efficient system to track and monitor the operations. The situation room can help the seaport operator to efficiently manage and monitor the seaport terminal operation. The administrator can also make decisions and easily review the performance of the seaport to take corrective action based on evidence recorded to enhance the operational productivity.

Nexcom's NVIS 14162, supporting built-in 16 PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) ports all in one, the enables them to empower the seaport front-end and back-end with functions and cameras, including the following:

Front end functionality

In the project, there are four Diviotec network cameras connected for each ARMG: Two Diviotec 360° panoramic 20MP multi sensor network camera NMP851 and two Diviotec 2MP bullet network cameras, NBR126PA. The Nexcom NVIS 14162 NVR directly provides network transmission and power supply to these network cameras at the front end of container yard.

Back end functionality

Integrated with a Milestone video management system, the Nexcom NVR will push real-time video to the situations room through a 2.5GbE LAN port.  The NVR supports the Milestone Smart Map function for exception management in the seaport's situation room. The LAN (1GbE) port of the NVR can connect an LTE router to perform remote maintenance. The NVIS 14162 is able to record and save the video for 120 days as a backup.

The NVIS 14162 is equipped with triple storage space including M.2 SATA SSD for the OS and 2 SATA HDD for recording storage which allows 120 days backup evidence recording. Using the NVIS 14162, which is equipped with the latest Intel Celeron processor, it may stream up to 16-channels in H.265 codec with a resolution of live view + recording at 2MP (1080p, 1920 × 1080). These specifications give the NVIS 14162 the ability to drive a maximum resolution of 4K60 on displays, which makes it easy for the supervisor to monitor the entire seaport operation. This also allows the operator to take direct measures by checking the recording for evidence tracking in real-time.

The all-in-one design may allow the user to save on the total cost of ownership, via the edge recording which can be achieved whilst simultaneously providing effective quality imaging.
