Somerset Malls move to Hikvision IP surveillance

Western Cape, South Africa

First South African shopping centre to upgrade to IP CCTV

First South African mall converts to IP surveillance

Hikvision network cameras have enabled the first of South Africa’s shopping malls to make the transition to IP CCTV surveillance. Working with local systems-integrator--SSC Infrasek, Somerset Mall has installed 130 Hikvision IP network cameras to protect both visitors and stores throughout the complex.

Somerset Mall is the third largest shopping centre in South Africa’s Western Cape Province and attracts around 200,000 customers every week. The new CCTV system ensures comprehensive security for the 1.3 km of storefronts and the Adventure Arena within the mall, together with surveillance of the extensive car parks.

Mario Groenewald, technical manager at SSC Infrasek, says, “Our challenge in designing the new IP CCTV system was made easier by the wide range of technologically advanced cameras and options available to us from Hikvision. It meant that we could select the right camera for the job without compromising the design objectives. We have used Hikvision products in other projects and found them to be robust and reliable, delivering very high quality images whilst remaining cost-effective. Together with their local distributor, Sensor Limited, Hikvision gave us great support all the way from system design through to implementation.”

“The successful implementation of South Africa’s first IP surveillance solution in a shopping centre environment is an impressive demonstration of SSC Infrasek’s design and implementation expertise, which is set to bring in more IP projects in the coming months,” says James Dong, General Sales Manager for Hikvision Africa.
