Smart homes open with smart locks

London, UK

Assa Abloy todemonstrate smart locking systems at Ifsec 2016

Yale, an Assa Abloy brand, will be showcasing one of the market’s largest ranges of smart door locks at Ifsec 2016. These innovative new locks are easily integrated with multiple smart home platforms. “Plug and play” smart locks are also available for out-of-the-box sales from DIY and electronics retailers.

“We believe a smart home starts with a smart door,” says Thierry Lloyd-Rossi, EMEA Product Director Smart Door Locks at Assa Abloy.

“That’s one of the reasons we decided to sponsor the Home Automation zone at this year’s Ifsec. We are looking to develop even more partnerships with smart home specialists and other service companies, including energy and telecoms suppliers, to take Yale Smart Locks into homes all over Europe. We see a major business opportunity in this fast-growing new market.”

“In addition to smart door locks, we are exhibiting our Yale Smart Living concept — a smart ecosystem which combines CCTV, alarm and door locks.”

Assa Abloy’s range includes stand-alone and connected locks. These locks are compatible with all major door formats, including European and Scandinavian profiles. The smart home hardware is tailored to each regional market, and includes various models.

The Yale Entr is a battery-powered smart lock that is distributed internationally. It combines a patented high-security mechanical cylinder with smart technology that allows users to unlock with a smartphone, PIN code, remote control or fingerprint. Wire-free charger, remote fob, touchpad and fingerprint wall readers are sold separately to complete this ultimate retrofit smart solution. At Ifsec, Yale will demonstrate a live integration with the RWE Smarthome system.

The Yale Keyfree and Keyless connected smart lock is an insurance approved replacement smart handle which is ideal for PVCu and composite doors equipped with a retrofit Yale multipoint lock. The Yale Keyless Connected model replaces an existing rim cylinder used on a 60mm backset nightlatch, and is ideal for timber doors. Both models are currently on sale in the UK — part of the Yale Smart Living home product range. Both are battery-operated and feature a tamper alarm and emergency power. They give users the ability to secure their home without a key. They can be controlled via smartphones when connected to a smart home system, or to Yale smart alarm and CCTV systems.

The Yale Doorman lock is also insurance approved and has been specifically designed for the Scandinavian residential market and offers a complete retrofit solution for Scandinavian doors. The Yale Doorman Smart Lock integrates with leading smart home and security systems and currently features in a TV, Youtube and digital marketing campaign in Sweden.

The Yale Digital Monoblock is a smart solution built for the Middle East market, this lock is available with PIN code and many other intelligent features. At Ifsec, Yale will demonstrate a live integration with the Pronet home security system.

“For new trade partners, we make working with Assa Abloy brands as easy as possible,” says Thierry Lloyd-Rossi. “For example, an expert team of Assa Abloy smart security specialists provides free installation training. Technical sales training and integration services are also available.”

Live demonstrations of all the Assa Abloy locks will be available at Ifsec.  Thomas Schulz, EMEA Marketing & Communications Manager at Assa Abloy, adds: “We have also worked with Ifsecglobal.com on a major survey of potential smart security customers. The final report covers multiple aspects of this growing market. What should a digital door lock do? How do homeowners want to control the new smart lock on their front door? What smart lock functionality do potential customers value most? And how much are consumers willing to pay for a digital front door lock?”

This new publication — “The Smart-Home Security Report 2016” — will be available soon to potential partners and other businesses working in the smart home sector.
