Nexus Smart ID helps empower digital vision

Stockholm, Sweden

The digital identity will be launched as an app and USB in 2020 and will be a secure personal key and identification for all citizens over 15 years of age.

Nexus Group is partnering to support the creation of a digital infrastructure in the Faroe Islands. Between 2015-2020, the National Digitalisation Programme of the Faroe Islands is building a digital infrastructure based on four major pillars: A data exchange layer, basic data, a citizen service portal and a digital identity.

The National Digitalisation Programme of the Faroe Islands (Talgildu Føroyar) is a programme of the Ministry of Finance that sets out to digitalise services for citizens, industries and the public sector in the Faroe Islands. The objective is to modernise the welfare and services of the population and ultimately create competitiveness, growth and production capacity. Until now, there has been no overall digital strategy on a national level.

The digital identity will be launched as an app and USB in 2020 and will be a secure personal key and identification for all citizens above the age of 15 in the small Nordic nation.

Nexus Group enables client enrolment of digital identities for day-to-day use by citizens of the Faroe Islands, and the entire solution will be compliant with EU eIDAS regulation on electronic identification.

The Nexus contribution relates both to the mobile identity which is managed through Nexus Personal Mobile, and for use without a mobile device Nexus provides the Personal Desktop application in collaboration with the Yubico 5 PIV security key. This means that Faroese citizens, through the digital identity, can access governmental and banking services in a secure and simple manner, and over time reach services from other EU countries with the local Faroese digital identity.

According to Nexus, this project will be one of the most modern implementations yet done globally.
