Iloq joins programme to offset carbon emissions

Espoo, Finland

Iloq manages its air and sea transport in a CO2-neutral manner in cooperation with Kuehne+Nagel. Through its Net Zero Carbon environmental programme, Kuehne+Nagel offers companies an easy solution to neutralise CO2 emissions from transportation.

Iloq offsets emissions from its transportation through Kuehne+Nagel to verified environmental projects that absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The projects are certified according to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) or the Gold Standard and comply with UN sustainable development goals and support and improve basic living conditions in developing countries. Other ongoing projects include the conservation of 1.6 milion hectares of forest in the Amazon region; the conservation of 44 endangered species in Indonesia; and daking healthcare accessible to 1300 people in Guatemala.

“We are excited to join the Net Zero Carbon environmental programme, which allows us to work together to easily offset the CO2 emissions from our shipments while contributing to a cleaner and more vibrant environment. This collaboration also supports Iloq's environmental responsibility. Every year, our self-powered solutions save 30,000 kg of battery waste compared to mechanical and battery-powered locking solutions. Cooperation with Kuehne+Nagel has been easy; together, we have been able to increase the sea freight ratio, and thereby also reduce modes of transport with higher emissions, such as air freight," explains Pekka Hassi, Iloq's Senior Sourcing Manager.

Kuehne+Nagel is motivated to support the reduction of the carbon footprint of the supply chains of its customers. This is illustrated, among other things, by the Net Zero Carbon environmental program launched by Kuehne+Nagel in 2020, to automatically offset emissions on all LCL (less than container load) sea freight shipments globally.

“It’s great to see that environmental issues are in the values of more and more of our customers, and we can be involved in providing services that support our customers’ goals. We have promised that, by 2030, all the logistics services we provide will be carbon neutral. Iloq's decision to offset emissions from its transports supports our common goal of slowing down global warming,” states Iris Kollanus, National QSHE Manager Kuehne + Nagel from Finland.
