Two additions to Iris IP alarm transmission system

IP communications provider Chiron Technology has announced two major additions to its proven Iris IP alarm transmission and monitoring system. Iris is already said to be the first to achieve EN50131 and 50136 certification, and also the first to comply with the highest risk level of Grade 3 ATS6 for monitoring systems across both IP lines and GPRS. The latest move puts Chiron in the forefront of mounting market uptake of alarms over IP technology.

The company has unveiled a new range of Iris 900 diallers with embedded IP router capability for the highest security and resilience. In practice, this means that if the main routeing equipment fails the unit will take over all IP activity automatically. The 900 range is designed to work alongside a user's existing firewalls, routers and Wi-Fi equipment and no PSTN lines are required.
Other new features of the 900-series diallers - now being sold alongside Chiron's successful 800 range (which has versions available with PSTN and ISDN back-up paths for dual signalling if the IP links fail) - include GPRS and alternate routeing. The 900 diallers will also work with VPN [Virtual Private Networks] or ordinary ADSL lines.
Meanwhile, Chiron Technology has also debuted a new software module for the Iris system, which allows visual verification of an alarm alert. Using the Visual Verification Suite, pictures from existing cameras can be sent direct to the monitoring centre operator's screen simultaneously with the alarm activation, allowing the operator to scan pre- and post-event images to help verify the cause of an alert. As the camera pictures are integrated with the alarm signal, these images do not distract the operator and are available if required. Additionally, the operator has no need to move from his desk position in order to access the pictures.
"This new product is more cost effective than installing CCTV for smaller businesses and organisations and allows them to keep pace with the latest police policy towards false alarms, which requires monitoring centres to carry out confirmation of an alarm activation to ensure police response," comments Chiron Technology's MD, Ian Tredinnick.
"Quite simply, nothing else in the market offers this attractive combination of proven technological capability with cost efficient installation. In addition, the Visual Verification Suite forms part of an Iris system that's already supported by over 36 monitoring centres across Europe and more than 5000 users."
These users include national retail chains such as Halfords, which began upgrading its 400 UK sites from traditional dial-up alarm communications systems to IP last year.
