Traffic control barrier

Palmdale, California (USA)

Delta Scientific announces that its new DSC1400 hydraulic-operated traffic control barrier is a surface-mounted, self-contained system that installs in only four hours on a flat concrete surface. It requires no excavation or trenching for hoses.

In an emergency operating mode, the new DSC1400 traffic control barrier comes to a full guard position in 2.0 seconds. Designed to withstand a K4 level impact, the DSC1400 will stop and destroy a truck weighing 15,000 pounds (66.7 kN) traveling 30 mph (48 kph) for an ASTM designation of M30, P1.

"For many parking structures and lots, there is no need for a barrier to withstand higher weights and speeds than those of an M30 ASTM designation," says David Dickinson, Delta Scientific senior vice president. "Likewise, lots and garages want to keep the cost of installation as low as possible. Since introducing the DSC1400, it has already become a big hit with many parking structure customers, especially those at airports."

The DSC1400 runs on standard 120/240 V power using a battery or standard outlet. Controls are via an eight-inch flat panel touchscreen color display. This panel provides "plug-and-play" operation when linked to the programmable logic controller in the motor drive unit.

An electro-mechanical wood arm signal gate alerts drivers of the barrier's position. In addition, red/green eight-inch traffic lights also alert the driver. "Green" indicates that the barrier is fully down. In all other cases, the red light is on. To prevent the barrier from being accidentally raised under an authorized vehicle, barrier detector loops are deployed.
