Taipei City Intelligent Transportation awarded IAA

Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei City has been developed based on the concept of sustainability whilst providing a humanistic and sustainable transport environment. The Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC), the authorised agent, aims to construct a convenient, safe and green energy transportation system in the city by linking up the resources of metro, bus and bicycle with barrier-free sidewalks to allow everyone to move easily from home to anywhere.

The themed app "Fun Travel in Taipei” introduced by TRTC for the year is designed to not only increase the availability of public traffic information, but also to increase utilisation of public transportation. In addition, it is proposed further to reduce traffic congestion as well as to reduce the air and noise polution in the city. The usage of this app, introduced in 2011, from TRTC has reached average monthly usage counts of over 10 million in 2014.

Except for the complete physical transport network, the App serves all public needs 24/7 in terms traffic information, such as bus, road, parking lot, MRT metro system, Youbike, taxi, river cruises, and intercity transportation. This world-class app provides the first and last mile transporation information and options in the city. Users can roam around Taipei metropolitan comfortably and efficienctly.

At the end of 2013, there were 133 stations providing 4,555 'Youbike' bicycles, and an average of 50,000 people were recorded as having used 'YouBike' daily. With the access service of the first and the last mile, the public transport network is strengthened, so people can more seamlessly transfer to public transportation, thereby reducing the use of private vehicles. The average number of disabled passengers using the Taipei Metro's guidance service in 2012 was about 10 thousand per month. In 2013, the figure rose to 14 thousand. The system effectively reduces the recording times of passenger information from 19.5 seconds to 11.63 seconds, while reducing the length of phone calls from 23.91 seconds to 2.41 seconds, ensuring that an effective and accurate guidance service is provided. The development of public transport has created a friendly and safe transport environment for the city since 2011 to date.

This outstanding service and performance has been rewarded in that the Intelligent Transportation of Taipei City Government has been honourably awarded with the 'Intelligent Application Award' from the show organisers of TCA 2015. TRTC of Taipei City Government will also showcase its service at the Smart City Summit & Expo 2015 that takes place from 20th to 23rd Jan. 2015.
