Sonitrol enhances customer experience with Aimetis

Waterloo, Canada

Sonitrol Security Systems is using Aimetis Outdoor Object Tracker to provide their customers with reliable outdoor intrusion detection on network cameras.

With 85 franchises and 60 branches, Sonitrol is one of the largest commercial security companies in North America. For years, Sonitrol has been offering outdoor monitoring services using analogue cameras with video encoders running basic video analytics. Over time, customer demand for higher video quality led to the use of megapixel network cameras, which offered superior image quality but were limited in their ability to run video analytics.

Consequently, Sonitrol was deploying hybrid systems involving high definition network cameras for video viewing and analogue cameras with analytics encoders for intrusion detection. This resulted in increased cost for end users, who were essentially installing two systems.

“We finally found a solution to simplify our video monitoring deployments,” said Eddie Bodbyl, President of Sonitrol’s Burlington, On location. “We have been waiting for a solution to combine high definition cameras with reliable embedded analytics. Aimetis Outdoor Object Tracker provides us with the scalability and high accuracy we need.”

AOOT provides reliable outdoor object tracking, classification, and alarms for Axis network cameras and encoders. The embedded application detects and classifies moving objects within a predefined area of interest, making it possible to automatically trigger an event. When AOOT detects an intrusion, an alarm is triggered in the Sonitrol alarm panel at its central monitoring station. A connection is established through a VPN connection and monitoring staff are able to view the video and respond accordingly.
