Cyber criminality, fraud and robbery are, unfortunately, everyday occurrences that are increasingly affecting banks. An example offered by the ABI (Italian Banking Association) highlights the situation - between June 2012 and December 2013, theft at ATMs resulted in a loss of 652 million euros.
The organisers of Sicurezza are keen to zoom in on exhibitors with potential solutions to these challenges for the banking sector. One of the vertical solutions available on the market comes from March Networks, which offers Searchlight for banking. It has been created specifically for use in bank branches and self-service areas. The objective is to prevent and block any sort of fraud or tampering, whether it is card trapping, which involves trapping the card in the machine; cash trapping, which involves blocking the money at the end of the operation; skimming, which involves obtaining PIN numbers illegally, or shoulder surfing, which involves obtaining PIN codes illegally via video cameras.
Sicurezza 2014 is designed to be an ideal venue for March Networks to present the European finance industry with its customised solutions, which have been studied to respect the privacy laws in the various countries. It offers devices that have been conceived to be perfectly integrated with technologies that are already in use in companies, guaranteeing savings in terms of time and money.
One product that is perfect for the financial market is March Networks Command, video management software (VMS) for recording, archiving, exporting and managing video streams sent to the user’s CRS servers, NVRs or SQL servers from cameras and IP encoders throughout the company network. This is an evolved VMS that allows for synchronising the video from the cameras in self-service areas or over ATMs on the street with transactional data while following suspicious behaviour, identifying potential criminals and quickly determining if an ATM has been tampered with.
When it comes to the installation of skimmers or cash/card trappers, for example, the security manager will receive a notification when there are people around the machine for a certain pre-defined period of time without completing a transaction. The video will allow the security manager to determine if the person at the machine is merely a slow customer or a criminal.
With the integrated video analytics features of the video surveillance system it is also possible to tell if a criminal is trying to "cash harvest,” or in other words, take money out using cloned or previously stolen cards. This allows the security manager to alert authorities immediately.
At Sicurezza, March Networks will also be presenting a range of high-definition IP video cameras, encoders, decoders, video analytics and hybrid NVRs beyond its highly professional management services offered to customers.
