Seetec supports OPC UA

Bruchsal, Germany

In security technology interfaces to external systems and standardised protocols have increasingly gained importance – just consider the rapid spread of ONVIF in video technology. Via a server interface, the current version R3 of the video management software Seetec Cayuga now supports OPC UA, a leading standard across systems in automation and security technology.

This means that third party systems, such as access control and building management systems, can now easily communicate with and trigger actions in Seetec Cayuga. An example: the access control system registers an invalid scan at the access control reader of a specific door. Within Cayuga actions are now triggered in real time via OPC, e.g. the live image of the respective camera is displayed for the security personnel, and an alarm recording is initiated. If customers use a third party application as their main system (i.e. a building management solution), they are now able to use the OPC connection with the new Seetec Cayuga Mini Client.

Furthermore, Seetec Cayuga R3 includes a completely new developed web client. Inspired by the native Seetec Windows Client the Seetec web client offers the user a familiar look and feel and provides intuitive user handling. It is based on modern HTML5 technology, which is why it can be used with almost any current browser – no additional installations or plug-ins are needed. The web client offers live and archive access, and is available in all of Seetec Cayuga’s system languages. It is complemented by a new version of the Seetec mobile client optimised for IOS 7, which enables mobile access to Seetec installations via Wifi or 3G from Iphone or Ipad.

With the Samsung SRD-1650D and Samsung SRD-1673D models, for the first time Seetec Cayuga also supports digital video recorders as image sources. This allows customers to centrally access distributed DVR infrastructures; thereby, enabling a gradual and cost effective transition to the new software-based technology. What is special about the Seetec solution is that the Seetec software not only receives live images, but is also able to access the archive of the devices – the DVR retains the functionality of a local recording server. Meaning, image data may still be stored on a DVR locally in a branch, and be requested from the central Seetec VMS only if required, thus saving bandwidth during operation. Access to the DVRs follows the logic for video sources and image material typical for Seetec Cayuga. The user is not required to deal with potentially complex network technology in the background.

The DVR support is available with the release R4 of Seetec Cayuga. The integration of additional DVR models from other manufacturers, is already in progress and additional functionalities such as PTZ control or the use of digital inputs/outputs is being implemented.
