Sagem Défense Sécurité supplies a biometric solution

Paris, Nord Villepinte (France)

Following international bidding, Denmark's Ministry of Integration and Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) signed a contract last October 6 for the supply of a capture and registration system for visa applicants' biometric data.

The turnkey solution developed by Sagem Défense Sécurité will enable the user to electronically record in real time the applicant's portrait and all their fingerprints. The applicant's portrait may also come from scanned and digitized photos.

The acquisition stations will be deployed in all Danish embassies. As part of this four-year project, Sagem Défense Sécurité will develop the fingerprint and photo acquisition software and provide the equipment.

The program is part of the harmonization of visa application procedures in countries in the Schengen zone. In order to issue biometric visas, member states will have to equip themselves with stations that capture applicants' biometric data. This
information will be transferred in the near future to the future European Visa Information System (VIS).
