Saab invests in Opax AS

Together with existing investor StatoilHydro Venture, Saab Ventures is funding the second stage of the company's commercial and technical development.

"Opax has a unique and scalable system for intrusion detection and perimeter protection under difficult outdoor conditions" says Fredrik Rosenqvist, investment manager at Saab Ventures. "We see the Opax software as a key component in future security solutions for the high-end security market such as oil and gas terminals, airports, harbours, nuclear power plants, prisons and military facilities."

"Saab's revenues within civil security exceed SEK 1 billion per year, and critical infrastructure protection is a target area for Saab. With the investment Saab wants to take advantage of the synergies with Saab and develop Opax AS into a leading provider of intelligent video surveillance solutions world wide" Fredrik continues.

Opax' technology originates from the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), and was commercialized by Campus Kjeller AS. Campus Kjeller AS is a driving force in the commercialization process of research ideas and technology from the Kjeller Science Park. Opax entered the rapidly growing digital video surveillance market in 2005.

StatoilHydro Venture made their first investment in Opax in 2006 . "Digital video surveillance will be key to protect critical energy infrastructure in the future. Bringing Saab onboard, a leader in this market, will help build valuable technical and commercial competence in the company and allow us speed up our got to market strategy," says Torbjørn Blom-Hagen, investment manager in StatoilHydro Ventures.
