Retailer uses surveillance to improve stock management

Taipei, Taiwan

The management of Pick n Pay Group, one of Africa's largest and most consistently successful retailers of food, clothing and general merchandise since 1967, wanted to implement high-quality video surveillance system in their Johannesburg main warehouse to improve stock management. The main task is to avoid inventory shrinkage and to increase packers' efficiency while forwarding big volumes of goods to the Pick n Pay stores nationally.

The challenge in Pick n Pay installation is limited budget and installation time. The installation was previously planned with conventional coax cabling but was found too costly and time consuming with the size of the warehouse. The installation was therefore redesigned with existing network infrastructure using IP devices, adding further central monitoring for even more effective and centralized management with allowed budgets.

The solution was done through local product distributor, with the design of GeoVision video surveillance system consists of GV-Compact DVRs (4 CH D1 Real Time standalone DVR), GV-NVR systems (manages up to 32 IP channels), and GV-Control Centers (powerful central monitoring station).

By implementing GV-Compact DVR, Pick n Pay gains all the benefits that digital technology offers. GV-Compact DVR digitizes the analogue signals and sends digital images directly over an IP network to the GV-NVR software to reduce cabling cost greatly. The most important of all, the Pick n Pay top management can easily monitor the entire warehouse without ever walking around, but still responsive to any abnormal incidents in timely matter.
