Raytec wins the Detektor Football Cup

Raytec won 1-0 against Panasonic in the final and took away the victory.

Raytec has broken the Mayflex run of victory by winning the Detektor Football Cup during Ifsec in Birmingham. Ten teams participated – which was a new record – and this year's tournament was better than ever before.
A total of ten teams participated in the Detektor Football Cup which was held over the Ifsec week in Birmingham: Videotec, Raytec, Optex, Vivotek, Panasonic, Mayflex, AR Media International, Axis and two teams from Norbain. The tournament took place on small-format five-a-side pitches. The teams were divided into two groups and the two best sides in each group went on to the semifinals.

Group one was very competitive. Last years runners up, Axis, lost their first game 1–0 to Panasonic. The two year consecutive champions Mayflex played well but this year, they lost a match in the group stage. Panasonic played tough and well-disciplined and beat Mayflex 2–0. AR Media International won 2–1 against Axis in a prestigious derby between the two Swedish sides. Panasonic and Mayflex went on to the semifinals, AR Media finished third, Axis fourth and Norbain Reds fifth.

In group two, Raytec won all their four matches and scored 18 goals. The exciting question was all about which of the teams would follow Raytec through to the semifinals. In their last game, Videotec had to beat Norbain Whites, but after a 1–1 draw, Norbain advanced to the semifinals, having scored more goals throughout the tournament. The elegant Italians consequently finished third and missed out on the play-off. Optex finished fourth and the Vivotek team, who had brought along the largest crowd of supporters, finished fifth.

Panasonic made a great impression in the semifinal and won 4–0 against Norbain Whites. In the other semifinal Raytec played Mayflex in what initially appeared to be a very uncertain game. However, Raytec managed to keep a clean sheet and scored three goals.

The final was played between Raytec and Panasonic, the only teams that had won all their matches. It was a tight game but it proved to be Raytec’s evening. The British team won 1–0 and took away the victory. A dinner and an award ceremony concluded the event.

This was the fourth edition of Detektor Football Cup. It is organised by AR Media International together with Raytec. The tournament’s popularity has grown year on year last year six teams participated and it will be thrilling to see how many teams will play next year and whether Raytec can defend their title.
