QNAP NVR supports new WD Purple hard drives

QNAP Security has recently confirmed that their Viostor NVRs have been engineered to support the new WD Purple 5Tb (WD50PURX) and 6Tb (WD60PURX) surveillance hard drives, allowing them to take advantage of the vast storage capacities offered by drives optimised for 24/7 surveillance environments.

The new WD Purple 5/6 Tb surveillance hard drives are designed for tower NVR systems with up to 8 drive bays. Made specifically for surveillance applications, WD Purple drives now support larger capacities to meet the growing storage needs for high-resolution videos.

"By expanding WD Purple to 6Tb, we make it simple for QNAP users to enjoy higher capacities of hard drives for surveillance applications to improve high-definition 4K video playback, and operate in 24x7 workloads of surveillance environments,” said Darrin Bulik, director of product marketing of WD’s Storage Technology group.

"As the surveillance market extends to monitoring with 4K displays, we envision that many users will start adopting 4K IP cameras that record videos which are four times larger than videos from 1080p IP cameras,” said Kent Chung, product manager of QNAP Security. "QNAP’s comprehensive NVR solutions coupled with WD Purple 5/6 Tb surveillance hard drives can fulfill the storage needs for high-resolution video recording and long-term video retention.”
