OSID from Xtralis builds momentum with industry recognition

Molfsee, Germany

The OSID smoke detector from Xtralis has fast become a trailblazing device - having been launched in 2010 the product has already won no less than 7 awards for innovation, the latest recognition being a Special Jury Award at the Expoprotection show in Paris at the end of 2012.
Xtralis received this latest Special Jury Award for its Open-area Smoke Imaging Detector (OSID) at Expoprotection 2012 within the category of fire fighting. The jury consisted of market experts, journalists, end users, and consultants and OSID was the only smoke detector to win an award at the show. According to Xtralis this special recognition reinforces the unparalleled technological innovation, design, and reliability of OSID. The award is the 16th award won by Xtralis worldwide in recent years and the 7th for OSID since its debut in 2010.

“Protecting lives and assets and solving the smoke detection challenges in open areas is no small task, and we work every day with our customers to deploy innovative solutions with the Xtralis reliability they depend on,” said Ghassan Habelrih, Executive VP of Xtralis Early Detection Solutions. “Since its release in 2010, OSID has thousands of installations worldwide, and its growth is phenomenal. The awards and global acceptance of OSID speaks volumes for the reliability and performance of the system, but the customer base growth is the validation and real prize,” he added.

Specially designed for open spaces, OSID is an innovation in early smoke detection technology. OSID overcomes the weaknesses of traditional beam detectors through the use of dual-light frequencies − ultraviolet and infrared. This innovation enables a distinction to be made between real smoke and intruding objects, while reducing the number of false alarms or unjustified disturbances that can be caused by building movement, insects, birds, effects of condensation, dust or light reflections
