ONVIF hits 2000 compliant products

San Ramon, Ca (USA)

ONVIF has confirmed that more than 2,000 products are now certified as conformant with the ONVIF interoperability specification.
This milestone of security industry adoption demonstrates the crucial role such interoperability specifications play in the process of selecting, installing and integrating IP-based security technology as part of an overall system.

The 2,000 products milestone for ONVIF also represents a two-fold increase in conformant products over the last 12 months, with overall ONVIF membership ranks swelling to more than 400 individual companies. The membership roster represents a cross section of manufacturers and other security technology companies from many corners of the globe and of varying sizes and scopes.

“Achieving this milestone of more than 2,000 conformant products, more than half of those within the last year, is an important marker in the movement to adopt interoperability standards on an industrywide basis,” said Jonas Andersson, Chairman, Steering Committee, ONVIF. “By continuing to make investments in test tools to streamline ONVIF conformance, we can maintain this healthy momentum as our organisation continues to expand.”

To help end users, systems integrators and consultants learn more about ONVIF, including the recent launch of Profile S, which addresses common functionalities between devices in an IP video surveillance system, ONVIF has launched an online training webinar. The webinar course, which can be accessed free of charge, is designed to provide a basic overview of the current security industry standards landscape, and additional details about the mission and objectives of ONVIF and the core specification and the conformance process.

"The myriad of networking products available in the marketplace today presents our industry with a real paradox," said Paul Tennent, Director of Tavcom Training, which developed the webinar. “The enormous choices we are now offered have never been more exciting but, without effective global standards to ensure smooth and easy interoperability, that same benefit can quickly become a nightmare."

To further simplify the implementation of ONVIF, Profile S has been added into the ONVIF conformance process and a test tool has been provided to the conformance process. Profile S describes common functionalities shared by ONVIF conformant video management systems and devices such as IP cameras or encoders that send, configure, request or control the streaming of media data over an IP network.
