Object Video sues Bosch, Samsung and Sony
Reston, Va (USA)
Object Video was founded in 1998 and holds today 37 United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and International patents, along with 46 USPTO and International patents pending, all in the field of computer vision.
Object Video's lawsuit has created various reactions on the market. John Honowich (www.IPvideomarket.info), well-known American blogger who specialises in the industry for IP-based security video, says that the reason for Object Video's action is related to its problems in recent years. The company received new funding of $ 27,700,000 in early 2011,which was a surprise to the security industry as Object Video has struggled with many problems over recent years, not least from a financial result aspect.
Honowich believes that the lawsuits are strategic and could be followed up with legal action against more players later on. Potential revenues from damages and a substantial increase of license sales could take Object Video out of the crisis it has fallen into, according to Honowich, who also expresses his concerns that this lawsuit may have a chilling effect over the entire video analytic industry. “Until this is resolved, all users face real risk from using not only Bosch, Samsung and Sony products but any other analytic that Object Video decides to sue”, concludes Honowich.
