Nuuo's VZIII retail analytics for smart vending machines

The Nuuo VZIII Retail Analytics solution has recently been successfully been implemented in combination with a vending machine - this represents a new vertical market and new applications for the company. The solution helps the vending machine owner to know more about their customers, e.g. who is the customer, and when is the most appropriate time to refill the shelves.

The VZIII solution user has hundreds of indoor vending machines and has been looking for a smarter way to manage all the vending machines.  Before implementing the VZIII system, they had various queries to address.  For example,  all vending machines provide the same products without knowing which customers bought which products. In other words, they were unable to link customers and products. In addition, the refill stock system in each machine was based on logistics flow, but chances were that most machines would run out of inventory before the restock supplies arrived - resulting in loss of sales. And finally, with digital signage installed to some of the latest versions of the vending machines, they also wanted to know who was watching the ads and which ads were of most interest in order to improve advertising revenues.

At this particular application, the Nuuo VZIII solution was installed with 2 different cameras at each vending machine; one for facial recognition and the other performs behaviour analysis.  The system outcome shows the conversion rate of current digital signage is 6% - and now with these statistics, the owner will be able to use the information as a proof of how attractive the location is and adjust the prices for different machine locations.

With the VZIII system, the client discovered a surprising fact, that 15% of the people visiting the general vending machines stayed longer than 5 seconds, while only 6% stayed in excess of 5 seconds at the all-beverage vending machines. This reveals which machines might be more effective for potential advertisers.

The solution also calculates the inventory flow on every vending machine they own. After conducting a comparison of the popularity on different weekdays for several weeks, the owners were able to assess when the best time is to restock the machines and see when the highest levels of sales are achieved.
