LPR plus tablet makes policing more efficient

Provideo, an engineering expert and provider in IP surveillance solution, has launched its latest surveillance solution for LPR applications incorporating the use of tablets and/or notebooks for the convenience of law enforcement officers.

When policemen or guards find a suspect car, they will normally enter the licence plate numbers manually to check the record or status of the car.  However, manually typing in the details increases the chances of human error and it is easily done to key-in the wrong information with incorrect digits resulting in loss of time in emergency cases.

Today, mobile devices, such as tablets or notebooks, havebecome part of the standard equipment issue to a policeman or guard.  If the user downloads and runs the Provideo LPR software (License Plate Recognition), whilst utilising the camera function on the tablet or notebook, it is possible to capture vehicle number plates on moving traffic on the road or in car parks. The LPR software is designed to automatically recognise and analyse a number plate to check the selected car details against the authorised database online.

Once the results have been checked and a car  license plate has been identified in the  "Wanted" list, an alert signal will be sent and displayed on screen on the tablet or notebook to notify the police officer or guard to take the necessary action.

There are two solutions available in this LPR application in terms of user options:  The first is the LPR software model PV-LPR-S, and the second is the SDK kit model PV-LPR-U.  Provideo will also provide the SOP free of charge to easily guide users such as poicemen or guards through the user-friendly operational procedures.
