Innovative use of Etrovision IP cameras on trains

Taipei, Taiwan

The 17 new express trains purchased from Japan recently by the Taiwan Railways Administration, or MOTC, provide a newly upgraded service to the company's passengers by incorporating network cameras Etrovision, which provide both information and entertainment.
The new trains were outfitted with spacious seating; modern, efficient lavatories, and various high technology features. For example, each train has a “Passenger Information Display System" with entails a 40 inch LED screen displaying information about the arrival time, transfers and weather forecasts. One especially noteworthy feature is that each display will also a show a live view image of scenic spots or places of interest that the train encounters during the journey. The system will notify passengers of the upcoming point of interest and display video as it passes by.

The “Passenger Information Display System" live view is provided by 2 EV8580Q-CD IP surveillance cameras installed in the front of the driver’s cab. The networking cameras and NVR are vibration-proof to deliver smooth video while the train is in motion.

The EV8580Q-CD supports the latest high megapixel image sensor with dual-shutter WDR and PIE (precise image enhancer), producing an accurate and clear high-contrast image even in challenging lighting conditions. Compared to other cameras, at night PIE can employ higher shutter speeds even in low lux settings. This enables the trains’ cameras to clearly capture night images outside the windows of the driver’s cab.

Over 100 units of the EV8580Q-CD have been installed for this project over the last year. Passengers like the new live streaming video along with the other new features introduced by the train server.
