Global Digital Surveillance Forum 2006 Revealed the Trend of Intelligent Surveillance

Taipei, Taiwan

Concurrent with SecuTech Expo 2006 on March 2 to 4, Taipei, Taiwan, the groundbreaking "Global Digital Surveillance Forum 2006 took place. The theme for the event was "The Road to Intelligent Surveillance". As the forum was focused on the development of intelligent surveillance and explored its three tracks: convergence, software, and applications, it was highly appreciated and attracted 1.007 delegates during the two days seminars.

While the challenge of convergence of physical and data security still relies on bandwidth utilization, scalability, encryption and security, reliability, system integration and accessibility and differentiation for specific market segments; in the keynote speech by Intel director of infrastructure processor division Asia operations, Eric Chen mentioned the intelligent surveillance market will reach to US$9.8 billion high by 2010--from a basis of US$5.8 billion in 2005.
In addition, Alan Everid, senior product manager of CCTV at Bosch Asia Pacific, talked about "Building Intelligent Surveillance Systems for Applications". And Dale Small, international product development manager at Pelco, presented "Traditional Security and Smart Surveillance", which focused on artificial intelligence and its use to analyze video pictures and device information from them.
"We are in the middle of the transition from analog to IP," said Everid. Classic analog, in his words, is analog and VCR-centric. Gradually, a shift to hybrid systems, which are more DVR-centric occurred, with the bulk of this move taking place before and after 2005. The next step is pure IP-video systems that are network-centric.
Small from Pelco also pointed that casino, airport and traffic are the main three applications for intelligent video, which observes abandoned objects and recognizes number plates. The key issues to achieve the convergence in security, however, are open platform, networkability, scalability, standards and procedures. "Within the next five years, intelligent video will be the fastest growing segment in the video security industry," said Small.
Having intelligent functions in the security solution has become the hottest trend in high-performance security designs. And it is not just a demand from system integrators-- security suppliers are actually setting the pace with new and hybrid solution-- covering video, alarm, access control, telecom and of course network systems. The theme of GDSF 2006--The Road to Intelligent Surveillance has successfully delineated the most prominent in intelligent security solutions in these two days.
GDSF 2006 is sponsored by Axis Communications, Bosch, Intel, ObjectVideo and Pelco.

Global Digital Surveillance Forum is an affiliated event to SecuTech Expo. Starting from 2001, GDSF forums have been the leading international events for revealing the trends of digital surveillance and related technologies, in the meanwhile, it is also an important platform for digital surveillance related players to network with peers and explore new business prospects.
