Geovision solution improves crime prevention in RSA
Johannesburg, South Africa
The LPR system is linked to a national database of suspicious or stolen vehicles, as well as to a dedicated Community Control Room (CCR) specifically tailored to monitor the new LPR system. The CCR monitors 24-hours a day and additional support is provided by the South Africa Police Services (SAPS), Metro Police and volunteer community members. With this infrastructure, SAPS is able to validate plate data against various databases, and be proactive and responsive to vehicles in question.
Geovision DSP-LPR makes the infrastructure possible by transmitting only the recognition results instead of constant streaming through 3G network. By improving the transmission method it keeps costs down even when multiple DSP-LPRs are simultaneously working 24/7 transmitting data for validation.
The LPR network has already assisted with the arrest of criminals in the area. The data kept in CCR will also be used to improve other traffic related concerns, such as traffic control management. The LPR solution is reliable and runs by itself with very little intervention by an operator once installed. The solution will eventually be implemented in more communities around the country to help crime prevention.
