ET&T Micro DVR protects SA platinum mine workers

Taipei, Taiwan

ET&T is providing a safety solution called the Strata Scope to protect the platinum miners in the Republic of South Africa.
The most dangerous hazard for the largest platinum mines in South Africa was the collapse of the mining tunnels and walls due to large rocks falling underground. Potentially there could be some fault lines in the rock after a fall, but there is no way for the miners inside to determine what kind of damage may have been extended to that area. To assist the miners as a precautionary measure, a geotechnical and rock engineering company from South Africa submitted a solution in consultation with the mine owners in an effort to improve the working conditions of their Platinum mines. The solution proposed by the enginering company is called the 'Strata Scope' which consists of a snake camera and an ET&T Micro DVR. This system will perform visual inspections with detail for those areas that are hard to reach physically.

The miners are taught to use the system with video taken inside the mine tunnels. By using the recorded video material on the Micro DVR after field works and reports, this will assist geographical specialists to determine the extent of the damage in the rock and to create a safer working condition for their miners.

After this project in South Africa was reported as being successful, ET&T will exhibit their latest Micro DVRs at the Computex show, held at TWTC Exhibition, Taipei Taiwan, from 31st May to 4th June 2011.
