Delta Barriers Provide Anti-Terrorist Protection at U.K. Embassy in Budapest

PALMDALE, CALIF (USA)

The United Kingdom´s Embassy in Budapest, Hungary, relies on Delta Scientific´s DSC 1100 crash-rated barriers to protect its facilities. Britain and Hungary are now partners in NATO and the European Union and the Embassy is critical to developing and maintaining this beneficial relationship. Increased security at the Embassy helps ensure that diplomatic ties between the countries are not harmed by disruptive acts of terrorism.

The DSC 1100 barriers control traffic and prevent vehicle-based attacks. Each barrier is a 108-inch (2,743 mm) rising steel plate that can stop a15,000-pound (66.7 kN) vehicle traveling 40 mph (64 kph) dead in its tracks or be quickly lowered to allow passage of authorized vehicles. Crash-rated at K8/L1 or K4/L2, it is well suited to protect an embassy building within a busy city where run-up distances and top speeds are limited. The DSC 1100 Hydraulic Barricade System is 30 inches (760 mm) high with widths available up to 180 (4360 mm) inches.
"The U.K. Embassy in Budapest not only uses the barrier to protect its compound from charging vehicles but the barriers are placed to create a sally-port which tightly controls traffic into the embassy," explained Delta Scientific Senior Vice President David Dickinson. "The first barricade is lowered to let in a car, while the barrier in front of the car stays up. The one in back then raises, and the car is sandwiched between them. Once searched and OK'd, the second barricade lowers and the car is allowed to enter the embassy."
Delta builds seven broad classes of counter terrorist vehicle barricade systems, including beam barricades, wedge barricades, bollards, sliding gates, shallow foundation high security barricades, surface mounted barricades and portable barricades.
