Cosmetics boutique improves customer analytics with Nuuo

Taipei, Taiwan

The store manager had originally thought there were more people entering by the front door than the back door. According to the window conversion rate reported, he has surprisingly seen the fact to the contrary.

Brick & Mortar, a popular beauty care product retailer in Asia, has its flagship store located in the most popular and expensive area in Taipei.  In order to analyse the shoppers' behaviour and the numbers of visitors come in or walk-by the shop, the store manager decided to implement the Nuuo VZIII Retail Analytics System.

The store has its front door close to the passageway to the MRT station, and its back door is right on the way to many restaurants and shopping malls in the area. In the shop, the store manager decided to install 3 dome and 2 fisheye cameras: Two of the dome cameras were positioned above the front door and the other one, above the back door. And, one fisheye camera each was also installed above the front and back door respectively.

The dome cameras are used to count people walking into the store and the fisheye cameras aim to count people passing by - a process called Window Conversion. By utilising this process, the retailer is able to get both the conversion rate as well as the entry/passing count data to analyse.

After the Nuuo VZIII system had been installed, the result of the people counting on the first day was a walk-by count of 4,889 and an entered premises count of 1006 at the front door, whilst the walk-by count was 5,739 and entry to the shop 1438 via the backdoor. The store manager had originally thought there were more people entering by the front door than the back door. According to the window conversion rate reported, he has surprisingly seen the fact to the contrary.

The report shows the window conversion rate of the back door to be 20% more than that of the front door. This offers a solid ground to the store manager to put more attractions at the front and get a higher window conversion rate, as there is actually more people traffic. In addition, making such a change or following the window charm of the back door will improve the front door flow and increase the product promotion frequency.
