Controlware victorious at Excellence Awards

The IP CCTV Specialist, Controlware Communications Systems, has won the award for Best Enterprise Solution for the St Pancras International CCTV network at the European IT Excellence awards.

The refurbishment and extension of St Pancras International is part of High Speed 1 (HS1), Britain's first major rail project for over a century and the UK's biggest ever construction project. Working with the Costain, O'Rourke, Bachy and Emcor Rail (CORBER) consortium and Rail Link Engineering (RLE) Controlware provided technical design, product supply, integration, commissioning and operator training services for a 450 camera surveillance solution.

As the leading IP Bosch Security Specialist Dealer (BSSD) for the UK, and having worked with the product range for over 9 years, Controlware had no hesitation in developing a solution around market leading Bosch IP products. The solution includes a mixture of both static and dome cameras, IP codecs, networked storage and an advanced management platform. Based on IP technology St Pancras International benefits from a comprehensive surveillance solution that is highly flexible enabling video to be monitored from multiple locations. Throughout the lifetime of the project Controlware worked very closely with Corber at all levels to ensure that the extensive CCTV surveillance solution was fully integrated with other management systems including: intruder systems, electronic access control, station management and help points. All aspects of the project from consultancy services to product supply and commissioning were delivered within budget and completed to the highest standards in time for the official opening by the Queen on 6th November 2007.

The first European IT Excellence Awards took place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Frankfurt, Germany, on Thursday, February 7th 2008. Organised by IT Europa, the leading European IT publisher and market intelligence organisation, they are the first pan-European awards which recognise the crucial role that Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Solution Providers play in the delivery of real world solutions like St Pancras International.

The European IT Excellence Awards attracted entries from more than 30 countries and an independent panel of consultants and editors selected the winners.

"The Controlware solution at St Pancras is an excellent demonstration of converged unified communications technologies being deployed in a critical live environment," commented John Chapman, awards organiser and editorial director of IT Europa. "The judges were particularly impressed with sheer scale of the project and the detailed planning and implementation alongside the Corber teams. The result is a solution bringing together what were disparate technologies into an integrated and managed security environment."

"The quality of entries was extremely high and demonstrated the depth of talent in the channel community across Europe," stated Alan Norman, managing director of IT Europa.

"I would like to thank the European IT Excellence awards for recognising the effort of the whole team at Controlware Communications Systems and for the teams hard work and dedication to the success of this prestigious project"
