Chiron Iris Touch alarm over IP series accredited to EN54-21

Reading, Berkshire (UK)

Mike Kennedy, Technical Director, Chiron with certificate

Chiron's entire Iris Touch alarm-over-IP range has been awarded accreditation to EN54-21/CPD for fire alarm systems.
According to Willem Harthoorn, Chiron's CEO, the Iris range is already Europe’s most widely-used alarm-over-IP technology and this latest fire approval makes it easier for Iris Touch users to comply with insurance regulations, particularly in European countries. He believes that EN54-2 accreditation will also open up new markets for Chiron.

“As a pioneer in Alarm over IP in the intruder alarm sector, we have always been at the forefront in ensuring our products are independently tested and accredited” says Mr Harthoorn. “Over the years we have achieved the most important EN and VdS accreditations for our products and this latest one is an important milestone as it allows us to extend our offering of robust, reliable alarm signalling to the fire industry. This industry is quite complex and is traditionally dominated by high standards for compliance with fire insurance regulations. This EN24-21/CPD accreditation will help Iris Touch users to better comply with these stringent insurance regulations, and this goes particularly for European countries.”

With this new accreditation, Iris Touch provides the ability to take the printer output from the fire panel to Iris Secure Apps, Chiron’s software application for remote system supervision of alarm systems that transmit alarms over IP.

A major benefit of this solution is that it allows for preventative maintenance predictions, delivering major saving potential and increased safety for monitoring centres, installers and system owners.

The European Standard EN54-21/CPD for fire systems sets out performance criteria for routing equipment transmitting fire alarm and fault warning signals for use with fire detection and fire alarm systems. To be compliant with the Construction Products Directive (CPD), products always need to be tested connected to a panel and prove they are communicating. The Iris Touch range has been tested as part of an overall fire system and has been approved EN54-21 throughout Europe for the fire market.
