ASIS presents second Asia-Pacific conference

ASIS International will present its second Asia-Pacific conference in Singapore, Feb. 11-13, 2008.

The theme of the Singapore conference, organized by the ASIS International Asian Bureau, is "Dynamic Solutions for Emerging Challenges" The comprehensive education program will focus on region-specific as well as global security issues. Dozens of sessions will explore such topics as protection of intellectual property, terrorism, avian flu, business continuity planning, port security and background screening.

Keynote speakers are Jack Chang, senior IP counsel of General Electric for Asia, and Rohan Gunaratna, founder of the International Centre for political violence and terrorism research.

Mr. Chang is chairman and one of the founding members of the Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC), which was organized in 2000 by 28 multi-national brand owners. The QBPC now has 180 members dedicated to enhancing IP protection in China. Mr. Chang is also a guest researcher at the IP Center of East China University of political science and law in Shanghai. The publication Managing Intellectual Property named him one of the 50 most influential IP persons in the world in 2006 and 2007.

Dr. Gunaratna, a specialist in global security, has more than 20 years of academic, policy and operational experience in counter terrorism. He is an expert in threat groups in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Dr. Gunaratna is the founder of Singapore's International Centre for political violence and terrorism research at Nanyang Technological University's S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. He is the author of "Inside Al Qaeda: Global Network of Terror" (Columbia University Press), an international bestseller.
