Access control IP devices managed through the Cloud at ASIS

Orlando, Fl (USA)

At ASIS last week, Canadian Viscount (VSI) claimed to be changing the concept of access control by using IP devices managed locally or through the cloud instead of control panels.

The Freedom Encryption Bridge, winner of a Gold award for access control at Govsec 2011 earlier this year, is an electronic device that enables attached, hard-wired devices to communicate securely over a network using the Internet Protocol Suite.

Specifically, Wiegand card readers, input devices, and electronic locks are wired to the Freedom Encryption Bridge, which routes AC encrypted IP packets over Ethernet networks to local or remote servers on the cloud. The product is a pure IP technology solution that is HSPD12 and FIPS 201 compliant.

A sister product to the Freedom Encryption Bridge is the Freedom Active Directory Schema , also a prize winner, this time of the convergence product of the year at ISC West 2011. This is a physical / logical unified security platform that integrates the access control database within Active Directory and eliminates the needs for convergence by providing single identity managment. Users managed within IT can be assigned rights and permissions for access control by security with all data stored within AD using LDAP, and synchronised within or across domains.

At the ASIS show Viscount also presented the ABC Vault, which is a cloud-based software application for disaster recovery and contingency planning. The software enables creation of an enterprise-wide database with relational drawings of every piece of life-safety related electronics including door locations in every facility managed by an agency or corporation.

The software assists users to create and permanently store as-built or schematic drawings for any door object within one or more facilities. Select a type of door or gate from the menu and then define everything from a simple door knob to card readers and exit devices / sensors from the toolbar. Wire and conduit requirements automatically poplulate the drawing and a bill of materials for all security equipment associated with a site can be compiled. Notes can be added to define the make and model of each device, installation dates, door construction (glass, wood, steel), surrounding wall construction (drywall, concrete etc.) the room function, and the occupant(s).

Any facility documents maybe uploaded that are required for disaster recovery including fire alarm, HVAC, IT, plumbing, building schematics, building and service provider information, to offer remote access in the event of an emergency.
