Access control for small to mid-size locations from Bosch

Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Bosch Security Systems is introducing ccess personal edition, a modular software program for access control of small to medium locations such as shops, offices, and manufacturing and military facilities.

The program is an ideal entry-level solution for such applications that require a high level of security but do not initially need a large-scale, powerful access control system. It is based on the intelligent access modular controller (AMC), the advanced hardware platform common to a number of Bosch security systems that communicates through TCP/IP and RS485. This allows users to easily scale up to the access control engine (ACE) of Bosch's acclaimed Building Integration System (BIS). Scaling up in this way means that users can benefit from the broad functionality of the ACE without the expense of new access control hardware, thereby providing a cost-effective centralized access management and control solution.

Bosch's building integration system is a comprehensive planning, installation and enterprise management software solution that is designed to totally integrate building and facility management services.

Optimal security, reliability and expandability of the access personal edition are afforded by a three-tiered structure. The upper level is a data management system (DMS) that handles all administrative tasks, such as personnel data and access profiles, scheduling and visitor management. The middle tier comprises up to 64 intelligent cacess modular controllers (AMC), each of which controls a group of doors and entrances and is able make access control decisions off-line. The system's lower level consists of proximity readers, which are available with a wide range of designs and functions.

Access personal edition's user-friendliness is enhanced through its graphical user interface (GUI) in Windows format, which is clearly and logically structured and intuitive to operate. Access privileges, time models and door parameters can be defined very flexibly.

Server fail-safe functionality is ensured by intelligent AMC intervention where all data is saved if there is a system failure and automatically re-balanced when the system is back on line. Moreover, AMCs can be updated by software download to save maintenance time.

Although designed for small to medium enterprises, access personal edition provides adequate administration of up to 2000 card holders, 64 readers and 16 clients. Other features include antipassback that protects against unauthorized use of cards, automatic card cancellation after expiry or temporary use, optional PIN code identification, and day and time modules. Administration is further facilitated through the multi-user module that allows system access from multiple workstations.
