Defendec technology chosen for border guard training

Tallin, Estonia

The Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) has recently procured another Defendec autonomous intrusion detection system to further integrate it into the academy’s curriculum. Defendec has been collaborating with the EASS Sciences for over 15 years to offer students the opportunity to get practical experience of cutting-edge defence technology, and this opportunity will be expanded to cadets in the Police and Border Guard College.

Roland Heinsoo, Senior Teacher at EASS, commented. “EASS have increased the scope of the relevant topic within the new curriculum and plan to integrate the systems into teaching to a much larger degree. We are currently working on how to purposefully incorporate Defendec cameras into teaching – both in theory and in practice, including as part of various exercises and control center simulations.

The purpose of purchasing additional cameras is to offer students more practical opportunities for independent work in smaller groups. We believe this will not be the last purchase and may order 1-2 more sets in the future”

Students acquire both theoretical and practical skills from working with the Defendec system.

Roland Heinsoo highlighted the way Defendec will also be incorporated into the curriculum at the Police and Border Guard College. “The implementation of Defendec systems is planned for cadets at the Police and Border Guard College who choose to specialise in border guard training. In our teaching, we first cover this in the course "Technical Equipment," where we introduce the devices' technical capabilities and placement options, both from a theoretical and practical perspective."

Since Defendec systems are widely deployed by the Estonian border forces, their integration into student training ensures graduates gain practical, real-world experience that translates seamlessly into their future roles, along with exposure to cutting-edge defense technology.

Gerhard Villem, Sales Director for Defencec, commented on the long-standing collaboration. “We are incredibly proud that the Defendec system has been an integral part of educating students at the EASS for the past 15 years. We’re equally excited that our solutions will play an even more prominent role in the curriculum going forward.”
