XXL logistics centre upgrades security and efficiency

Paris, France

To secure the extensive open areas and warehouses of one of France's largest logistics warehouses requiring uninterrupted monitoring of the truck unloading zones and perimeter protection, a solution combining both Axis and Synaps technologies was selected.

With an area the size of almost 28 football pitches and a storage capacity of 270,000 pallets, the platform is designed to meet all the logistics needs of the Group's furniture stores and e-commerce division in northern France, while optimising delivery times.

A logistics project on this scale requires a comprehensive security concept. In this case, the monitoring of the perimeter fences, access roads and truck unloading quays played a priority role. At regular intervals and at all strategically important points, cameras were to be attached to the existing light masts. To be on the safe side and to prevent power failures and micro-cuts, the customer requested a fifteen-minute buffering of the camera systems to ensure the continuity of the video recordings.

For uninterrupted monitoring of the truck unloading zones and perimeter protection of the extensive open area, the installation company chose an Axis PoE fixed bullet camera, powered and secured by a Synaps PoE 3E P2 solution. The Synaps outdoor box (IP65/IK10) with factory-integrated micro DC UPS (LiFePO4 battery technology/10-year battery life), uninterruptible 2-port Ethernet switch and secure webserver connection (SNMP V1&V3, HTTPS, BACnet IP) also offered space to install a fibre optic media converter to bridge longer distances.

Axis Dome mobile thermal imaging cameras were installed for the systems to detect hazardous situations and help to avoid false alarms with costly follow-up operations. The ideal supply and security solution in this case was the Synaps 24V 3E IP version with an additional 60W High PoE injector and fibre optic media converter. In this way, the continuity of the remote controlled video recordings for the detection of serious danger spots in real time was guaranteed. The subsequent installation of the Synaps boxes on the lighting columns was quick and easy thanks to their compact design (200x300x150mm) and the mounting and anti-vandalism accessories supplied by the manufacturer.

More than 100 Synaps outdoor network interface boxes have been mounted with Axis Dome thermal imaging and fixed bullet cameras distributed around the premises. For the installer, Synaps was chosen because it provided the bridging time required by the customer and saved time by not having to search and order the individual components themselves.
